Now is the time to bring awarness to congressmen and women about green crypto

I watched the recent congressional hearings from Crypto CEOs and it was quite apparent there are some congressmen/women on one side of the isle that are using the non-green argument of POW to provide cover for possilby not supporting legislation for crypto. As a green coin this should have been Chia’s moment and still could be if you guys start reaching out to these congressmen and women and bring them on board. Also it would be a good idea to try and get Bram or Gene in these hearings next time so they can explain what a green crypto coin looks like.

In the current divided partisan environment when one side of the isle is against cryto but loves green energy we need to use this to our advantage and give them an example of something that they also can support.

I have timestamped the 5 hour video to where the congresswoman talks about POW and not being green and how the planet is burning. https://youtu.be/F_kZELcynKQ?t=14881

There is political theater, there is actual political action behind the scenes, and there’s in between stuff.

A large chunk of what we’re seeing broadcast is mostly political theater intermixed with some of the others… Many of the players involved are basically just saying certain things to camera or doing certain things to the camera when their minds are already made up or plans are already underway one way or the other. This isn’t the entire case, but that is a lot of what you were seeing.

When it comes to the actual behind the scenes getting stuff done with Congress, we are very involved with them and have been for quite some time now, with a lot of active and engage in conversations happen with many of the key people. Just because you aren’t seeing one of us on these congressional broadcast doesn’t mean we are not participating in a meaningful way.

Thank you sir as always for your response. Good to know you guys are working on this. Still would love to see one of you guys in front of congress someday, for good reasons of course.

Just because you aren’t seeing us on TV speaking to them, does not mean we have never spoken to members of Congress. 😉

I hear rumors there might even be a Chia farm or two in the House office buildings.

I believe Chia Network is playing the slow game – they are building out use cases to say “look, we can do all this with just a fraction of BTC energy cost”.

I’m sure they’re also making connections with people in high places, just not so publicly.

edit: “I’m sure” is a figure of speech, I’m not actually sure, I just expect them to be networking behind-the-scenes.

I am not so sure as seen by many in congress taking the anti-crypto route and using the “POW is not green” argument for cover. Making connections as you say only work if those connections grasp an understanding of what other coins are doing. Either they have not connected to these people who filled the airwaves with FUD or they have missed this opportunity. This is the reason for the post and to bring awareness to either correct the “connections” as you say or to establish new ones with congressmen who need to be educated.

You honestly think going “greener” entails having countless super server farms running 24/7 either plotting or farming in everyone’s basement?

This is hands down a complete red herring to the real problem, and only gives politicians more stupid talking points to make it look like they care.

We don’t need green crypto. We need a fundamental change to the infrastructure of manufacturing and power production.

This post sounds like a naive or motivated commercial, more than an actual practical solution.

We need both “clean power” and more efficient processes / industries. Green crypto won’t solve the overall problem, but it’s a step in the right direction.

If by step you mean a few grains of sand to help get the concrete to build the Golden Gate bridge.

By every other standards as a solution. The “green” aspect is quite clearly a marketing ploy and nothing more. Any e-waste savings on old HDDs are going to be swamped by the massive up take in brand new high capacity drives, that will end up in the same landfill eventually.

Crypto as a whole is a very libertarian concept. Anybody who supports government involvement in ANY crypto, in ANY way probably has a vested interest in the government getting involved because they will most likely profit from it somehow.

Whenever government gets involved in any industry and starts regulating it too much, all it does is increase the cost of entry into the industry, which makes it harder for small time benefactors to remain profitable and opens the door for the super wealthy to remain the only players in the industry.

Only a small percentage are die hard anti government crypto advocates. The truth is if there is money to be made you will attract wealthy people. Whether the die hards realize and accept it or not regulation is coming. This is the reason I expanded into Chia after making the right investment years ago in Ethereum. Chia is supposed to be working on bridging a decentralized coin with centralized governments, markets, and companies.

The key is the backbone of the new banking system will not be controlled by any government and the rest of the world will not miss a beat when the US implodes from within after overprinting money.

Or you have to take a realistic approach and understand some magic internet money isn’t going to displace world governments.

There is going to be a changing of the guards but unfortunately governments will have to be involved. An algorithmic stable coin sounds cool for the future but there are about 1097 steps we have to get through before that gains any meaningful traction.

You realise the only people getting rich off crypto are the people who were already rich right?

to be honest I have my doubts about how green Chia actually is. proof of work coins currently end up using pretty much as much electricity as they possibly can while still being profitable. how much electricity ends up getting used is a product of coin price, mining difficulty, and electricity costs, right? Chia currently uses much less electricity than bitcoin, but isn’t that just because Chia is not currently worth very much? if it actually becomes popular and achieves anything close to the market dominance of the top coins, then would it not use a comparable amount of electricity, and just require drastically more hardware to do so? why would people stop buying hard drives when it’s still profitable to do so?

This blog post, with citations and references: https://www.chia.net/2021/10/20/mining-vs-farming.en.html as well as http://chiapower.org should help clarify this. I’ll let them articles themselves go into the deep data and numbres, since they have references to fall back on to back up the exact numbers, but the long and the short of it is that Chia is designed from the ground up that if it was scaled to the same volume as BTC or ETH is conducting for a comparable 1:1 relation, it would still be using a fraction of their power due to it’s inherent design.

For the first few paragraphs I felt like the article actually supported my point of view, and I nearly even closed it without finishing. I’m glad I kept reading, as it definitely raised points that I hadn’t considered and showed me some figures that were surprising to me. In particular the graph showing power consumption of the network at 400EB was a bit of a shock.

I don’t think democrats want answers. If we gave them chia they would find something wrong with it. It’s easier to drive through legislation if it’s a crisis
